Bukra House
A new modern family home in Turramurra with great focus on space and matieriality.
The ideas were simple, separation between living spaces and private places created two linked forms, a brick clad living, dining and kitchen area and a lightweight clad form housing the bedrooms, office, bath and laundry form. We needed to bring light and views from the northerly aspect (the street) up one level through the house. This organised the spaces around an axis that also served as the circulation pathway that continued through to the backyard. The owner’s love for meaningful interactions at each junction allowed for sensible textured material selections that organically changed in appearance through the day and through seasons. This included timber formed concrete, recycled bricks and matt steel sheeting. Designed in anticipation of their children, the rooms were designed to be flexible enough for them to grow with their home.
